Arizona List has endorsed Priya Sundareshan for the Arizona Senate.
She is an environmental law professor working to address climate change and protect voting rights. Priya was born & raised in the district. She teaches natural resources law at the University of Arizona, and previously advocated for sustainable fisheries with the Environmental Defense Fund. She is a voting rights advocate and has been leading voter protection efforts and engagement on redistricting within the Arizona Democratic Party. She studied engineering at MIT and law and natural resource economics at the U of A, so she knows we need more science-based decision-making in politics. She has a growing family and wants her children and all children to inherit a sustainable world. Priya is running for State Senate in the new LD18 to make Arizona a leader in renewable energy, restore balance to our water supply through conservation and efficiency, and improve our democracy by making voting easy and accessible to all. Nancy is a public school teacher fighting to fully fund education and pass common sense gun legislation. Nancy has lived most of her life in Arizona. She attended NAU and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a math emphasis. She has lived all over Arizona including Phoenix, Sierra Vista, as a military spouse and teacher, and Tucson since 2007. She and her husband, Andy, have raised their two daughters in Tucson. Megan recently graduated from the U of A, and Macie will be in the Honors College at NAU in the fall. She was a volunteer in her daughters’ classrooms and activities and served as President of the Manzanita Elementary FFO. Nancy has held an Arizona Teaching Credential since 1994 and has been teaching yoga at Tucson High since 2013. Nancy is a proud member of the Arizona Education Association and a delegate to their annual Delegate Assembly. She was the Physical Education Department Chair for five years and is currently on the Safety Committee. Nancy is a certified yoga teacher and has taught at Yoga Oasis since 2009. In 2018 she served as President of the Tucson NOW Chapter. Nancy is passionate about public education and will bring her leadership experience and her teacher’s voice to our Legislature. Kat Stratford is a community activist and mom advocating for reproductive rights and our LGBTQ+ community. Kat is a single mom to a brilliant daughter and an extraordinary trans son. A twenty year resident of Tucson, Kat is an outspoken advocate for victims of violent crime, and has spent the last two years focused on policies that would help survivors of sexual and domestic violence. As a survivor herself, she is dedicated to removing obstacles that keep people in dangerous situations. Kat has been living with Meniere’s Disease since 2020 and is acquiring deafness and learning ASL. She is currently a candidate for State House in the newly redistricted LD 18, and plans to focus on these issues as well as climate change, reproductive and voting rights, and expanding access to education.
