Tempe City Councilmember Berdetta Hodge Statement on Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard

Tempe City Councilmember Berdetta Hodge Statement on Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard

June 29, 2023

“I strongly disagree with the decision published today by the Supreme Court of the United States. This ruling disenfranchises students of color who seek to improve their lives by pursuing a university education. Affirmative action has been a boon for marginalized communities. Undoubtedly, we have moved backwards as a society. As an elected official who serves concurrently on a school district governing board and a city council, I am committed to developing policies that will ensure equitable access to education for people of all races and cultural backgrounds. I vow to each of you that ‘the American Dream’ will remain attainable. What happened today is a hurdle, not a roadblock.”
