Nia Heckler

2024 Summer Intern

Hello everyone, my name is Nia Heckler I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and I am a current intern for Arizona List. Having the honor of being an intern comes with great responsibility and dedication. It is also such a pleasure to be surrounded by hard-working women who are coming together to achieve greatness. I am also an incoming Junior studying Psychology and minoring in Women’s/Gender studies at Arizona State University. I uphold many leadership positions on campus, such as Internal Vice President for the Black African Coalition, Secretary for the National Council of Negro Women, and the Assistant Director for the 2024 Sankofa Leadership Institute. Being involved on campus is important because I get to give back in many ways to my community. I aim to be a part of the advancement accomplished for the Black, African, and Caribbean students at Arizona State University. My immediate goal is to head off to medical school after I graduate undergrad. I hope to receive a PhD to conduct medical research as a psychiatrist to develop practices that contribute to the advancement of Black, African, and Caribbean women. Specifically developing more resources and opportunities to address issues such as cultivating mental wellness, access to reproductive health care, and motherhood support.
