Running for Laveen Elementary School Board
Mekell Bell has lived in Laveen for 16 years, since 2008, where she and her husband raised a family of five children, four of whom attend school in Laveen. She loves this community and has a vested interest in the success of the district. Mekell is an educator. She began her career teaching in 2006 and specializes in English & Language Arts and ESL. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Education. She will be a passionate advocate for teachers and for public education. As a mom, she knows children should be our top priority, in schools and society. All students have the potential to learn and excel and deserve the right to flourish in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. A believer in community service, Mekell has volunteered at her kids’ school as a Junior Achievement teacher for the past 8 years (2016-present), led a church youth group for 14 years (2008-2013, 2015-2024), and coached soccer and basketball for Jr. Suns teams at the Cesar Chavez and South Mountain community centers (2021-present). Mekell is excited for the opportunity to work with incredible district employees, other governing board members, parents, and the community, to make the Laveen school district the best it can be for everyone because our kids, and the community as a whole, are worth it!
