Anna Hernandez

Running for Phoenix City Council District 7.

I come from a big family and was raised by proud, hard-working immigrant parents who hustled to keep a roof over our heads. They taught me to be a problem solver and take care of others.

I’m a tia who wants to see my nephews and nieces achieve more than they dream possible.

I’m a sister who lost my little brother and best friend when police killed him while he was experiencing a mental health crisis.

I’m a daughter who lost my dad to COVID19 when he was forced back to his maintenance job during the pandemic.

In 2022, I decided to run for State Senator for AZ Legislative District 24. Since being elected, I’ve proven that I can get bi-partisan results on affordable housing, accessible mental health solutions, community safety, and police accountability.

My family, like so many others, has paid the price of the choices made by politicians who put greed, ego, and pettiness before people. Because of their choices, AZ ranks 48th in education but 8th in incarceration, quality jobs aren’t in our communities, and housing is unaffordable.

We are failing to care for our neighbors who need mental health support. And the consequences of climate change threaten our water and survival.

In Phoenix District 7 where I live, we are expected to live 10 years less than neighborhoods in North Phoenix and Scottsdale. Our communities are some of the most criminalized. And our water and air quality are some of the worst in the state.

It doesn’t have to be this way.
