Doreen Garlid

Tempe City Council

Doreen is proud to call Tempe her home. She was born in California in 1963, the second oldest of four children. She was born into a military family and lived on several different Naval bases until finally settling in Arizona in 1976.

She is a member of the Navajo Nation and very proud of her native heritage. Her mother raised her with an understanding of the Navajo Way, her grandmother was the family matriarch and worked at Hubbell’s Trading Post, her grand uncle was a Navajo Code Talker, and her great grandfather was a Navajo medicine man.

Doreen has been married for 26 years and her family is the most important thing to her. She has spent most of her adult life raising her four children: Daniel, Kathryn, Michael and Erick. She previously worked as a newsroom business manager at KSAZ-TV Fox 10 in Phoenix. For the past three decades, she has been extensively involved in local and global charity work, in addition to growing her leadership skills volunteering in local schools, community groups and organizations.
