Consuelo Hernandez is a proud graduate of the Sunnyside School District, and is proud to call the Sunnyside community her home. Consuelo serves on the Sunnyside Unified School District as she works toward building a strong educational foundation for all Sunnyside students. She holds a B.A. in Global Health from Arizona State University, and knows first-hand the struggles of a young minority students navigating through the college system, being told they cannot succeed.
With few resources and little to no guidance, Consuelo quickly realized the university system was not intended to support students like her. As a result she decided mentor at-risk youth, hoping to bridge this gap. For over ten years she’s been an outspoken activist in her community, fighting for education equity, and helping to bring transparency and accountability to various levels of government.
Consuelo’s activism also stretches beyond the Sunnyside community. From hosting free citizenship workshops, to working in Panama and Ghana to establish free clinics, to fundraising for DACA renewal paperwork, she has a long track record of advocacy on behalf those who need it most.
