Carmen Trujillo

Phoenix ESD Governing Board

Carmen Trujillo is a working-class mother, lifelong Phoenician, and community advocate. She grew up in Phoenix’s Garfield neighborhood where her grandmother, Helen Trujillo, worked closely with neighbors and the police to develop a safe and sustainable community. Those experiences taught Carmen the importance of community involvement. Since graduation she has worked in Human Services for the State of Arizona’s Division of Developmental Disabilities.

Over her years of professional and volunteer service, Carmen has consistently advocated for marginalized people, working on multi-disciplinary teams to support Arizonans with little or no family. As a parent and a social worker, she understands that Arizona’s education system is the foundation of the health of our communities and success of our students.

Carmen believes all students deserve to attend high performing schools, and will work toward that goal by continuing her grandmother’s legacy of community advocacy, and supporting teachers, parents, and students throughout Central Phoenix while on the Phoenix Elementary School District Governing Board.
