Running for Liberty Elementary School District
Moving from Paul’s birthplace in Akron, Ohio, her family moved to Phoenix in 1955. As a product of Arizona’s public school system, Paul attended multiple elementary and junior high schools across the Valley. After attending both West Phoenix and North Phoenix high schools, she graduated from East Phoenix High School.
After two years at NAU, Paul enlisted in the military and served with the United States Navy and then with the United States Marine Corps. Returning to ASU, Paul graduated with a Cum Laude, Bachelors of Science in Education degree with a major in History. In 1979, Paul received her Masters in Education, Guidance Counseling.
In 1986, Paul was honored as the 4A Boys’ Cross Country, Coach of the Year. After more than thirty years in public education; serving as a classroom teacher, counselor, coach, building and central office administrator, Paul retired in 2009.
In 2020, Paul ran for and won a seat on the Liberty Elementary School District #25, Governing Board. Successfully winning this seat established her as the first transgender woman to hold an elected office in Arizona. Paul was honored by Arizona List as one of the “20 Women Who Changed Arizona.”
