Running for Santa Cruz County School Superintendent
Maya Donnelly, a proud native of Nogales, Arizona, brings over 30 years of experience in public education to the role of Santa Cruz County School Superintendent. A lifelong advocate for equitable and high-quality education, Maya has served in a variety of roles that reflect her deep commitment to student success and community engagement.
She began her career as a classroom teacher, building strong instructional foundations and connecting with students and families. Twenty years teaching elementary and middle school students included leadership roles such as department head and writing specialist. Her education journey shifted out of the classroom and into the County School Superintendent’s Office as Grant Programs Director, where she secured and managed critical funding to expand academic
and enrichment opportunities for students. Promoted to Chief Deputy, Maya helped lead strategic initiatives and grow community partnerships to improve educational opportunities across the county.
Now, as the appointed County School Superintendent, Maya understands the needs of a rural border community and leads with integrity, experience, and a passion for ensuring that every student – regardless of background – has access to the tools, support, and resources they need to succeed.
