Running for San Luis City Council
Luisa “La Maestra” Arreola is a South County leader whose work spans public education, housing development, and community organizing. After a 23-year career as a Language Arts teacher and mentor in the Gadsden Elementary School District, she transitioned into construction management, where she now works as a journeywoman overseeing housing projects and community outreach for the company in San Luis. The shift required her focus and gave her a deeper understanding of how local infrastructure and accessible housing shape daily life.
During her years in education, Luisa served as President of the Gadsden Education Association, leading grassroots efforts to raise awareness about school conditions, student needs, and support for educators and staff in rural communities. Her organizing brought new visibility and collective action to a district long overlooked.
Luisa serves on the Somerton School District Governing Board, continuing her advocacy for students, families, and school employees with the commitment she carried in the classroom.
She remains active as a Precinct Committee Member, a State Committee Member, and a member of the Latino Caucus. She also serves on the Salvation Army Board, recently helping distribute more than 500 food boxes to families. Her work centers on accountability, community strength, and practical solutions for South County.
