Running for Creighton School Board
Katie Gipson-McLean was born, raised, and resides in East Phoenix, living in her childhood home with her husband, Reese, and their two sons. A fourth-generation Arizonan and daughter of two retired military veterans, Katie attended school in Creighton before graduating from Camelback High School in 2005.
She became a first-generation college graduate when she earned her B.A. in Secondary Education Social Studies from Arizona State University in 2009. She then moved to Portland, dedicating five years to education and youth work, before attending Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon, where she earned her J.D. in 2017.
Katie is a proud member of Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc., and has served over six years on its National Board of Directors. She currently works as a Deputy Public Defender in Maricopa County, representing community members charged with felony offenses who cannot afford an attorney.
Passionate about systems change, Katie volunteers on committees at the municipal and school district level, with Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ), and on various political campaigns and causes.
