Running for Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board
Jennifer Richards is a mother, public health researcher, and candidate for the Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) Governing Board. She is Diné (Ashiihi/Salt Clan), Oglala Lakota, and Taos Pueblo, and grew up in Tuba City on the Navajo Nation. Her upbringing in a rural tribal community has shaped nearly 20 years of work for Arizona families.
As an Assistant Professor and Program Director, Jennifer has led programs in maternal and child health, reproductive health education, preconception health, mental health promotion, and substance use prevention. Her work is grounded in the belief that women deserve accurate information, circles of support, and care they can trust. She holds an MPH in Maternal and Child Health and a PhD in Health Behavior and Health Promotion from the University of Arizona.
Jennifer’s family has lived in Flagstaff since 2020, and as an FUSD parent she’s seen its strengths and areas of improvement. She’s running for FUSD board membership to close achievement gaps, keep good teachers here, open channels for family input, and make sure every student has someone who notices when they’re not okay.
