Deborah Howard is an accomplished public affairs professional turned citizen advocate turned candidate. The path was not certain and the outcome not guaranteed. Born the youngest of three daughters to two WWII veterans. Graduating from U.C. Berkeley at the age of 25, after dropping out of high school. Being appointed by President Reagan to serve in the U.S. Department of Labor. Joining the national communications office of AARP. Getting married. Moving back to California. Becoming widowed. Moving to Arizona. Being diagnosed with cancer. Immersing myself in advocacy work. Becoming a candidate. These milestones are both ordinary and common; and have uniquely defined and shaped her life and her perspectives. Her greatest skill is working with teams of uber-smart people to work together and make decisions collaboratively. She hopes to use this skill in the legislature to lift Arizona education funding out of the basement and to support ever improving student achievement; protect and expand the political, economic and healthcare rights of women, minorities, and vulnerable communities; and expand freedoms across the board.
