Running for Phoenix Elementary School Board
Carmen Trujillo is a Governing Board Member in the Phoenix Elementary School District No. 1, where she has served since 2019 with a deep commitment to equity, community partnership, and student success. Through coaching, reading, and ongoing professional development, she strengthened her understanding of effective governance practices and her role as a board member within the district. This learning guided her in supporting the district’s implementation of the Student Outcomes Focused Governance framework, helping the district sharpen its focus on long term student achievement.
Carmen brings more than a decade of public service experience across education, human services, and community health. She currently serves as a Community Health Worker with the Creighton Community Foundation and previously worked as a Human Services Specialist III with Arizona’s Division of Developmental Disabilities. She is a proud alumna of Arizona State University, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in Criminology & Criminal Justice and Public Policy & Public Service.
Her leadership is grounded in a collaborative approach to problem solving and she is dedicated to elevating student and family voices, strengthening community trust, and ensuring that every decision made in the boardroom reflects what is best for students.
