Wilmarie Maldonado Castro

Running for Alhambra Elementary Governing Board

Wilmarie Maldonado Castro is a toddler mom, small business owner, and educator whose many roles give her a unique ability to connect with community members from all walks of life. Her life’s work in education and community engagement has prepared her to represent families, advocate for students, and serve with heart and purpose, making her a distinctly qualified candidate for the Alhambra Elementary School District Governing Board.

Wilmarie was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Philadelphia, where she attended Philadelphia Public Schools. Eight years ago, she moved to Phoenix through Teach for America and went on to earn her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University. In Phoenix, she has taught kindergarten and first grade and has supported struggling readers across grades K–12.

At home, Wilmarie and her husband, a proud Marine Corps Combat Veteran who served in the Middle East, are approaching four years of marriage and are parents to a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Isla, and a rescue dog, Yuma.

Wilmarie was inspired to run for office by everyday leaders who never planned on stepping into public service, but felt called to by the needs of their communities. She hopes to serve the Alhambra community with the same honor and integrity that inspires her.
