Karyn Lathan

Running for University Lakes Constable

Karyn Lathan is the Constable in the University Lakes Justice Precinct, which includes the eastern half of the city of Tempe. She was first elected in 2018, was re-elected in2022, and has served the community for 6 years with integrity and compassion. Many families are one paycheck away from eviction and homelessness, so Karyn provides community resources to those who do not have a place to go. Further, she lessens the emotional toll of an eviction on kids. Recognizing the traumatic impact on children, Karyn interacts with families with compassion and care. She is truly the Community Constable, here for both the landlord and the tenant.

Karyn spent over 25 years in law enforcement and corrections as a Police Officer, Correctional Officer, Probation and Parole Officer, and Restorative Justice Coordinator for the Arizona Department of Corrections. She is an Air Force veteran, with service as a law enforcement officer in both South Korea and stateside. Karyn has been a certified victim advocate for 17 years and was the founding Chair of the Tempe Family Justice Commission. She is currently a member of the Tempe Police Chief’s Advisors, and is a Commissioner on the Tempe Human Relations Commission. Karyn holds a Baccalaureate in Business Administration with a concentration in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix.
