Running for LD28 House
Barb is a second-generation native Arizonan, educated in Arizona public schools from kindergarten through university. After surviving polio as an infant, she is left with minor mobility issues and an enduring appreciation for vaccines and medical science.
After graduating from Alhambra High School, Barb went to NAU for a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and later a Master’s in Adult Education.
Barb didn’t jump into teaching right away; she worked with DES Food Stamps, at a church for community development, and at Arizona Western College in Yuma, South Mountain Community College, and Glendale Community Colleges teaching ESL.
Barb eventually made her way back to the valley to begin a 31 year teaching career at Deer Valley SD as an English, Social Studies and Government teacher.
Since retiring in 2014, she has gone back to teaching English part-time at local community colleges and has become passionate about getting involved in her local community and protecting democracy in Arizona – which has led Barb to running for Arizona State Legislature.
