Maria Castro is a native Phoenician, community organizer, and mother. After the passage of SB1070 in 2010, Maria was inspired to become politically active and has been fighting for our communities ever since.
As National Coordinator for the Southwest Region for United We Dream, Maria helped oversee the full implementation of DACA in the Southwest and made sure that all who qualified for the program had the
opportunity to apply. Additionally, Maria has worked on a lawsuit that would give DACA students access to driver’s licenses.
As a mother and public school graduate, Maria knows that a strong community starts at education.
Maria resides in Phoenix with her husband, Julio, and their young son.
