Naketa Ross

Phoenix Union High School Board- District 1

Naketa is a fierce advocate and protector for those who have been underrepresented. Her approach to policy is rooted in the shared values of her community: education, health & wellbeing, jobs & economic opportunity, environment & sustainable future, civic engagement & leadership, fair and just equitable systems. She has two wonderful daughters, one a veteran currently pre-med and the other a student at Chavez High School. She’s proud to call Laveen her home, and is dedicated to working together to create a strong, secure, and resilient future for our families and community. Naketa Ross is an elected official serving on the Phoenix Union High School Governing Board. In three short years on the school board, Naketa has made drastic improvements for students, their families, and staff.  She has been instrumental in overhauling the district’s student handbook, removing policies that furthered the school to prison pipeline and replacing a deficit, punitive model with restorative practices. Having a daughter with special needs, Naketa works closely with staff on improving the programs and services offered to students with special needs.
