Katie Gipson-McLean was born, raised, and resides in East Phoenix. She is a third generation Arizonan, and daughter of two retired military veterans. Katie is a 2005 graduate of Camelback High School. She became a first-generation college graduate when she earned her B.A. Degree in Secondary Education Social Studies from Arizona State University in 2009. After graduating from college, Katie moved to Portland and dedicated the first five years of her career to education and youth work. Following her work in Portland, she attended Willamette University College of Law in Salem, Oregon and graduated with her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2017. Katie has served over six years on the National Board of Directors for her sorority, Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. Katie currently lives in Phoenix with her husband Reese and her two sons and works as a Deputy Public Defender in Maricopa County. She is passionate about systems change and volunteers her time with her local city council district office, Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice (AACJ), and on various political campaigns and causes.
