Karen McClelland

Sedona Oak Creek School Board

Karen McClelland has lived in Sedona since1987 and her son went through the Sedona Oak Creek School District and  graduated from Sedona Red Rock High School and NAU.  Karen first got involved in education advocacy and was on the board of the West Sedona School PTA, the Sedona Red Rock High School Site Council. In 2002 she was elected to the Governing Board of the Sedona-Oak Creek High School District and is now running for re-election to the board for her 6th term. She believed that all students, including those with special needs, living in poverty, rural, Native American, and LGBTQ+ students, need to have a fully funded school with well-paid teachers who can ensure a great education based on critical thinking and exposure to a variety of academic courses, technology and career based training. She has been active in advocacy at the State Legislature and has attended many Arizona School Board Association conferences and trainings during the past 20 years. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the ASBA as the Yavapai County Director.  She has been honored by the ASBA as a gold star Master of Boardsmanship, County Director of the Year, Advocate of the Year and as an ALL Arizona School Board member.  She has been a strong supporter and volunteer with Save Our Schools Arizona since their creation.
