Running for Glendale Elementary School Board.
Junio Ocampo was born and raised in Glendale. From a young age they always had a sense of awareness that the world wasn’t made to be fair for anyone that wasn’t a white man. Growing up as first generation Latine and queer was a challenge of its own. Junio studied childhood education but left after seeing the way our government handled the pandemic, feeling helpless. They recognized the fact that in order for things to change, it would have to start with them and their journey in activism started. They began going to protests, being active on social media, and staying tuned into the news that was going on. After a while they knew that if they wanted to get started in politics it would take a huge leap of faith. Junio quit and started working on their first campaign, Analise Ortiz, and suddenly the world had opened so many possibilities. During this experience, Junio was asked to run for school board. This was a full circle moment since they originally wanted to be a teacher to make a change in children’s lives and are now running to make decisions that will better their lives.Â
