There’s No Scandal, Only a Partisan Witch Hunt

Conservative media figures and politicians have tried to turn the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, into a political weapon against the Obama administration for more than three years. Armed with lies and misinformation, their attempts to paint a partisan witch hunt as a legitimate scandal have been relentless. Now, they’ve seized on Michael Bay’s new film about the Benghazi attacks as another opportunity for them to do so.

Since 2012, Media Matters staff has scoured a cross section of news outlets and monitored thousands of hours of cable news and conservative radio footage. We’ve written hundreds of blog posts and research items and produced massive studies about Fox News’ Benghazi coverage – providing a thorough debunking of conservative falsehoods. Two years ago I published “The Benghazi Hoax,” exposing how the media helped the Republican Party create a phony scandal surrounding the Benghazi attacks. A year later an addendum – All Questions Answered – was included to expose the partisan, conservative nature of the inquiries into the attacks and to fight back against the smears of the right-wing and conservative media.
