Candidate Introductions

Arizona List has endorsed 22 outstanding women in the races for the Arizona State Legislature. These women are poised to be part of the exciting opportunity for Democrats to take control of the Arizona State House in November. But they cannot do it without your help.

In the coming weeks we will be sending out information on these candidates and their campaigns and how our members can help them.

Clean Candidates Who Need Early Contributions

Most of our candidates are running under the Arizona Clean Elections system and some still need Early Contributions or “seed money”. Early contributions are limited to a maximum of $130 per individual and can come from anyone regardless of where they live. Because this seed money must be spent by 8/21/08 your contributions are needed NOW to make a difference so we will begin our profiles with those women who need your early contributions.

Casa Grande Area

Krista Pacion House LD23

http://www.krista2008.com/
Krista is in a five way primary for a place on the general election ballot which is why she needs your help now. In 2006 she was only short of winning a place on the general election ballot by 331 votes. This time out Krista is running for an open seat in the House. The District spans three counties and includes the population center of Casa Grande as well as the mining town of San Manual. In addition to early contributionsof $130 or less Krista has asked us for volunteers to help her contact voters. If you live in the district please contact Krista and offer to help before the primary. Early ballots are already in the mail so your help is needed now.

Rebecca Rios Senate LD23

rebecca_rios@hotmail.com

Senator Rios has no primary but faces a Republican challenger. This is an important seat for Democrats to protect in this District which has had increasing Republican registration in recent months. Rebecca Rios currently serves as the State Senator for District 23 as well as the Minority Whip. First elected in 2004, she serves on the Public Safety and Human Services committee, the Transportation committee and the Financial Institutions, Insurance and Retirement Committee.

Yuma Area

Representative Lynne Pancrazi House LD24
Email her at mpancrazi@q.com or call her at 928-782-1455

Representative Theresa Ulmer House LD24
http://www.UlmerAZ.com/

Senator Amanda Aguirre Senate LD24
AmandaAzSenate@aol.com

All three of our Yuma area candidates are incumbents who were in Phoenix until the State Legislature adjourned sine die at the end of June. They all still need early contributions of $130 or less and are still collecting $5 contributions. The fives can only be collected from people who live in District 24. There is no primary in this race but the House candidates face a lone Republican who has name recognition. It is important for Democrats to protect all three seats in this election. If you live in the Yuma area please contact these candidates and get involved in their re-election efforts.

Phoenix Area

Rae Waters House LD20

http://www.raewaters.com/

Because Rae is the only Democrat running for one seat in this District she has an excellent chance to pick up one of the four seats Democrats need in the Arizona House. Rae started this race with high name recognitions in the district because she has served on the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board since 1998, serving three terms as president. She is also a past president of the Arizona School Boards Association. Rae needs your early contributions of $130 or less and she needs volunteers to make phone calls and walk for her. The District includes Awatukee and part of Chandler.

Stephanie Rimmer House LD8

http://www.stephanierimmer.com/

Stephanie has taken on two Republican incumbents in this Scottsdale and Fountaint Hills district. She is currently serving as commissioner of the Scottsdale Pride Commission and is a graduate of Emerge Arizona. Stephanie is still collecting seed money and would like more volunteers to help her in this tough race.

Angela Cotera Senate LD12

http://www.cotera08.com/

Angela has no primary opposition but she faces a Republican opponent who is trying to move up from the Arizona House in the general election. Since 2003 she has worked on various NASA Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope research projects from her home office, in collaboration with scientists from around the world. Frustrated by the actions of our local, state and national political leaders, Dr. Cotera was compelled in 2006 to do what she could to help her local community. She is a graduate of Emerge Arizona, and is currently participating in Leadership West Class XIV. She serves on the Avondale Planning and Zoning Commission. Because there is no incumbent in this election this is a possible pick up opportunity for Democrats in the State Senate. Angela is still collecting seed money at this time. The District is west of Phoenix and includes Goodyear and Litchfield Park.

Ann Wallack Senate LD11

http://www.annwallack.com/

Ann needs our help facing an incumbent Repbulican in this race. Ann’s goals of community support for neighborhood schools through adequate funding, curriculum choice and effective administration have been clear during her service as president of her local Parent/Teacher Association and the Scottsdale Parent Council. Ann was an Arizona List endorsed candidate in 2006 when she ran for this seat. Ann needs your early contributions for her race in this District which is in northeast Phoenix and includes Paradise Valley.

Karen Price Senate LD 9

http://www.price2008.com/

Karen is also facing an incumbent in this northwest Phoenix District that runs from 51st Ave. to 114 Ave. and UnionHills to Northern. he is an educator, small business owner, and community activist that is deeply concerned for Arizona’s education, environment and economy. In addition to early contributions of $130 or less Karen has asked for volunteers to make calls and host coffees for her if they live in within the District.
